I've been thinking lately (oh no). When I was in grade school in the 70s (yes, I can't believe I just admitted that) I remember decorations from Valentine's Day specifically stating St. Valentine's Day on them. Does anyone remember this?
So I was just curious....when did we change from St. Valentine's Day to just Valentine's Day?
If we dropped the St. part from Valentine's Day over the years because it may have been offensive to some, then why do we still say St. Patrick's Day and not just Patrick's Day?
Something to ponder I guess. Am I being weird?
Anyway, since this is the day of love, Valentine's Day or St. Valentine's Day, (whichever you prefer),

I had never given it much thought, but your right...It was St. Valentine's Day when I was growing up too...You just brought back many wonderful grade school memories when we use to celebrate it in school. Ahhhh, those were the days. Have a wonderful, love-filled St. Valentine's Day.

Did you go to parochial school? I still hear people referring to St. Valentine, but no one has ever said to me Happy St. Valentine's Day. And I live in the buckle of the Bible belt :D
ReplyDeleteI was reading the story of St. Valentine just this morning, about how he would perform the sacrament of marriage when it was outlawed because he believed in love *le sigh*
